Wellington Wayne Huber, born in Kamloops, B.C. on September 15, 1949, passed away in Kelowna, BC, on January 26, 2024, at the age of 74.
For those of you who were lucky enough to know Wayne, you know that his heart was as big as his zest for life. He married the love of his life, Claudia, in 1968 when they were still teenagers. In 1970 they welcomed their son Garred, followed by their daughter Kelly in 1972.
He lived his life to the fullest and wasn’t afraid to take chances, whether it be moving from the Okanagan to the Yukon, building his own riverboat and running it down the Stikine River, or working in the Andes Mountains of Argentina. He had a passion for hunting that he shared with his family, friends, or anyone who was “game” for the adventure. Wayne was a jack of all trades and master of all. He was a gunsmith, welder, butcher, and mechanic to name a few.
His love for the North drove him to put down roots in the small town of Cassiar, B.C. In 2003 he and Claudia moved to the Creston Valley, where he spent the final 20 years of his life on their acreage in Canyon, BC.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife Claudia, his son Garred (Korlaina), daughter Kelly (John) Quinn, grandchildren Jena (Lee), Kail, Dryden (Peyton), and Delainey, great-grandsons Kepler and Rocco, and siblings Louise (Paul), Tyler (Jan) and Tanya (Ted).
He was called by many names, be it Wellington, Willy Wayne, Dad, Grandpa, Papa Wayne, Honey Bunny, or just Hun. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
