It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steve Takacs, who passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 7, 2024. Steve's memory will live on through his children Patsy-Anne, Shannon, and Miles, as well as his grandchildren Luke, Sophie, Noah, Makszi, and Kai, as well as his family in Hungary. He was predeceased by his son, John Takacs.
Steve was born on May 16, 1932, in a small village on the Balaton Lake in Hungary to his parents, Istvan and Anna. He had one sister, Elizabeth.
In the late 1950s, Steve immigrated to Canada, seeking refuge from war-torn Hungary. He eventually settled in the Creston Valley, which became his beloved home for almost 60 years. For many decades, he was an active business owner and a dedicated community volunteer through the local Rotary Club. Many landmarks around Creston bear Steve’s mark. In the mid-1980s, he started a local roof truss business, which is still in operation today under new ownership.
Throughout his life, Steve lived by the motto, "Find something you love to do, and you’ll never work another day in your life." He loved animals, enjoyed cooking, and was passionate about golf, managing to achieve a hole-in-one at the Creston Golf Club. He had a great sense of humour and was a captivating storyteller despite English being his second language. He was known for his stubbornness and resourcefulness.
A celebration for Steve will be held on September 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Church, followed by a reception at Jimmy’s Pub from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
