It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Michael James Vincent
June 18, 1948 – April 15, 2025
Michael was born to George and Eileen Vincent in New Westminster, B.C. His father, a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and later a Conservation Officer, moved the family frequently during Michael’s growing-up years—something that greatly impacted his life.
Michael followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force for a short time before leaving and moving to Nelson, where he attended the Kootenay School of Art. He had a very creative mind—always coming up with new ideas to improve or create things. Among his many creative talents were his unique wood burnings, which he spent countless hours crafting. His artwork was admired and cherished by many.
While in Nelson, he met the love of his life, Kathy—whom he always called Katia. They lived there for a short time before settling in Creston, where their family grew and they established their forever home.
Michael began his career at what was then called the Endicott Centre, starting as a night watchman. He quickly moved into roles working directly with the residents, then became Program Manager, and ultimately CEO. He had a true heart for the people he served—those with disabilities—and they loved him in return. This work was more than a job; it was a calling.
For over 20 years, Michael and Katia also opened their home as home share providers, offering a warm and supportive environment for those in need.
His heart was always with his family. Michael’s sense of humour and love of joking will forever be remembered and missed. He cherished having his children and grandchildren over for big meals, playing music around the campfire, enjoying games, and soaking in the beauty of the backyard he and Katia created. Their home was the central gathering place—the heart of the family.
Michael’s love of music and drumming was passed on to his sons, who also became drummers. All of his grandchildren sing or play multiple instruments. The grandkids would often say, “Grandpa, you give the biggest, best hugs.”
Michael was predeceased by his father in 2004, his brother Doug in 2016, his mother in 2017, and his youngest brother Gerry in 2018.
He is survived by his oldest brother Geordie; his loving wife Katia; his son Tim (Pam) and grandchildren Kael, Marlaina, Sage, Chloe, and Desiree; his son Damien (Sheri) and grandchildren Joshua, Andrew, and Justin; and his son Tyler.
He will always be loved and remembered by his family and all who knew him.
A service will be held at the GF Oliver Funeral Home
