Lynn Becker
Marilyn (Lynn) Becker was born in Calgary Alberta, October 21, 1941 to Mary and Alfred (Ted) Deisman. She lived in Calgary with her parents and her grandparents Ethel and Charles Seeley, and in 1953 her family moved to Creston. She spent many of her teenage years with her Seeley grandparents. She began working in Calgary before moving to Creston with her parents in the lates 1950’s. She met Myron Becker in 1959, and they married February 15, 1960. They moved to Calgary in 1964, and to Cranbrook later the same year, before they settled in Canyon in 1967 where they raised their family and filled their home with many welcomed foster children. Lynn was a stay-at-home mother for many years, filling the home with canning from the gardens she tended to feed the family.
As her children grew, she took on part-time work in the packing shed, creating friendships with many other women of the valley. The many friendships led to many “lunches with the ladies” over the years. She maintained these friendships throughout her life.
Lynn loved her family, treasuring each and every one. She took the grandmother title of “Nana” to heart – she had so much love for all of her babies, having a unique and special relationship with each.
Lynn had many talents, including painting and sewing, and spent many hours creating to her hearts content beautiful pieces of art that are treasured by many. Whether it was a picture she was given or a picture she’s seen in her mind, every piece she created was as beautiful as the next.
Lynn began her sewing career creating draperies for Sears in Calgary. From owning her own drapery and blinds business and a custom sewing business, Lynn touched many homes in the Creston Valley. Her creative touches are also evident throughout the home she so lovingly cared for. When she was tired of something, or it was not aging well, she would just redo it… whether it was the drapes or window coverings, tablecloths, chair coverings, the paint on the walls, or endless applications of wallpaper… she would just change it.
Lynn continued creating with fabric and oil paints until her last days – she shared the quilts and paintings with many. She was even working on a set of placemats the week she passed away.
Lynn is survived by her husband of 63 years, Myron Becker, her sister in law Gloria (Ed) Perry, her children Ron Becker (Beth Friesen), Corien Becker (Marc Smith), Gordon Pederson (Alison McLeod), Janice (Ian) Campbell, Keith (Rhonda) Becker, her grandchildren Veronica Chadney, Eric (Justine) Speaker, Tyler Becker, Sheri Becker (Baz Skinner), Nicole Becker (Kalvin Heizmann), Searra Becker, Courtney (Colton) Wardrop, Tom Pedersen, Dakota Becker, Alex Pedersen, great grandchildren Brandon, Jassie-Leigh, Emmalyn, Madilyn, Ricki, Makaia, Ayla, Makenna, Quinn, and great-great grandchild Evangeline.
Lynn was predeceased by her parents Mary and Alfred (Ted) Deisman, her siblings Roy Deisman, Wally Deisman, and Marguerite (Jerry) Reed, daughter Brenda, and grandson Chad Speaker.
