It is with great sadness that the family of Leroy Johan Esler announces his passing.
Leroy was seventy-two years old.
Born on January 23, 1953, in Seattle, WA, Leroy travelled with his family to Anchorage, Alaska.
There, Leroy graduated from Anthony J. Dimond High School in the class of 1972.
Leroy was known for his intelligence, and everyone noted he could carry on coherent conversations with adults even as a young boy.
He was also known for his sense of humour, always seeing the lighthearted side of any subject.
Leroy enjoyed music and had a collection of favourite albums, and listened to them often.
He also played the saxophone in school and the Sand Lake Baptist Church orchestra.
In addition, he had an aptitude for all things mechanical and was very good at understanding schematics and physics.
Further, he was a Sous Chef at the prestigious Hotel Captain Cook and enjoyed cooking savoury dishes away from the job as well.
Always the avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed cycling, hiking, and fishing, especially with his sons.
And, he was also active in a few bowling leagues in the Abbotsford area.
But, overshadowing his interests and accomplishments, Leroy was known for his humble and kind heart.
Never wanting people to fuss over him, he soldiered through whatever life presented to him.
Leroy’s journey came to a peaceful conclusion while sleeping.
We thank God that his passing was apparently painless and that he did not suffer.
We love you, Leroy.
We know we’ll likely never know another person like you.
Leroy is survived by six siblings and two sons.
