Len Mosher Obituary

Leonard Trask Mosher, 77. Born in Port Alberni, BC, July 15, 1948, died in Creston, BC, April 16, 2026.

Len was born on Vancouver Island, but he grew up a Kootenay boy. He swam in Kootenay Lake and ate candy from the Handy Store. He attended Adam Robertson Elementary School and the former Prince Charles Secondary, then took Commerce classes at UBC before deciding it wasn’t for him and returned to Creston Valley.

He worked in carpentry and surveying, including a stint as a surveyor in the Arctic at the Polaris mine on Little Cornwallis Island. He was a faller in La Ronge, Saskatchewan, and he worked at jobs on the Creston flats. He built his log house with perfection at Sirdar overlooking the east branch of the Kootenay River and the south end of the lake. For the past 32 years, he lived with his wife, Gail, on Goat River Road in South Creston, where he grew garlic and tended fruit trees.

At the age of 41, Len changed his path and enrolled in nursing at what was then Cariboo College in Kamloops. He graduated with distinction as an RN, chose geriatric nursing over hospital work, and nursed at Swan Valley Lodge before retiring in 2008.

A decent and good human being, a caregiver, the kindest man, sensitive to all creatures, he was generous in spirit and every other way. He accepted people as they were. He had a trusting relationship with the children in his life; he was a steady presence.

Len’s love-hate relationship with the game of golf was lifelong. He won a few trophies, taught young golfers at the Creston Golf Course, worked on the construction of the last nine holes, and served on the executive. He excelled at pool and poker, wrote poetry and short stories; he made beautiful things out of wood. Witty, off-the-wall, softly sarcastic, he appreciated word-play and the humour in everyday life. His sense of humour never left him. (Far Side cartoons were his favourites.)

What we learned from Len: to be curious about people, to find humour in small things and to share it, to show up, to be calm, to try new things, to help out whenever we can.

Pre-deceased by his parents, Vaughan and Helen Mosher, he is survived by his loving wife, Gail and sisters Betsy (Larry), Candy (Ken), and Heather. He was stepfather to Dorothy, Avril, Geronimo, and Naiches; and to Reina, Kallie, and Ilana; and uncle to Meaghan, Lara, Ian, Bradley, Jamie, and Erin. He had 13 step-grandchildren.

We have enormous gratitude for Len, for the time he shared with us, and for the impact he had on all of us. He brightened our lives.
