Karpa Myron Obituary

Myron John Karpa

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Myron John Karpa on November 19, 2025.

Myron was born on February 04, 1935, in Gilwood (High Prairie), Alberta, and was the second-youngest of seven children. Myron married the love of his life and soul mate, Margaret Peacock, also from the High Prairie area, on November 30, 1963. Myron was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna, brothers Mike, Steve, Bill and Fred, and his sister Nettie. His memory lives on in his loving wife and the children they had together, Brenda (Mark), Maryann (Jim) and Karen (Mark); his grandchildren, Nicole (Devon), Leann (Braiden); his great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Finn, Kessler and Jaxan; his sister Mary, and extended family members.

Myron grew up on the family farm southwest of High Prairie and attended the local country school that he and his siblings walked to; later grades were completed in town. At the age of 17, Myron ran heavy equipment and joined his brothers Steve and Bill in the logging industry a year later. He and his brother Bill then started their own logging company working in Alberta, south of Grande Prairie and north of Slave Lake. Margaret joined Myron in the logging camps, where they started their young family.

Myron and Margaret purchased homestead land that they worked side by side to clear and farm, and the original Karpa family farm where they built their lives together with their children. Myron continued to work for logging companies during the winter months for several years to help support the farm. Myron was more than just a farmer; he was heavily involved locally with the grain elevators and seed cleaning plant and worked extensively with the Ag Service Board. He also organized and hosted field service days to help further research and advancements in agriculture. He gladly shared his knowledge of farming with anyone who asked, and often repaired equipment for neighbours. Using his carpentry skills, he helped build the new United Church in High Prairie.

In 2005, Myron and Margaret retired and moved to the Creston Valley in B.C., where they built their second home together, continued to travel, take in bluegrass festivals and hike. Myron was eager to tell anyone who asked how much they loved living in the valley. Applying their years of farming skills, they created a beautiful yard full of fruit and nut trees, roses and various other flowers and plants. They could often be found side by side, picking fruit, tending the gardens, and enjoying coffee conversations on the deck overlooking their yard.

Myron will be dearly missed. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, kindness, and easy laughter by all who crossed his path. His spirit is a gift that will uplift and inspire us always.
