We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Hanne French. Born in Tonder, Denmark, Hanne moved to Canada in December 1959, when she was just 11 years old. Hanne began her life in Canada after arriving in Quebec and shortly thereafter moving to Millicent, A.B., then to Brooks, A.B. and with her family before they made the next move to Worsley, A.B. After high school, Hanne worked at Fairview General Hospital, where she dreamed of being recruited by the Navy to become an interpreter. Plans and dreams changed for Hanne when she met the love of her life, her husband Delmar. Hanne and Delmar were married on July 5, 1968, and they went on to have three beautiful children whom they raised on their homestead in Worsley before relocating to Creston in 1987.
Hanne was always incredibly hardworking and held many different jobs throughout her life, while also raising her children and managing her homestead farm. In Worsley, she worked in the food service industry as a waitress, provided flagging service for construction, and worked at the auction mart.
At 41 years old, Hanne decided to go back to school and become a care aide. She worked in the seniors’ center before settling into the extended care unit of the Creston Valley hospital, where she enjoyed working with all of her patients and told many great stories of her daily encounters with them, her “old people”. After retiring from the healthcare industry at 55, Hanne and Delmar enjoyed travelling together, and she also loved doing embroidery in her spare time. Hanne also enjoyed dedicating her time to volunteer work at the Legion, Creston Valley Cruisers, T.A.P.S., and Census Canada, among others.
Throughout their marriage, Hanne and her husband shared the good times along with the bad. For the past five years of her life, Hanne provided full-time care to her husband while also being a wonderful mother and friend to everyone who knew her.
Hanne passed suddenly, doing what she loved. She will be missed by all.
