Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Gordon Vernon Smallwood, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024, in Edmonton, Alberta. He was predeceased by his father, mother, sister, one grandson, and wife of 64 years, Helen Virginia Smallwood. He is survived by his two brothers, five children, their spouses, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Our Dad had fond memories of his birthplace Athabasca, returning many times to visit. He had many accomplishments, but the best was the day he became a born again believer in Jesus. As he walked in his new found faith, he encouraged and touched many lives. He impressed upon each of our hearts, in a very tender way, how precious the gift of life was to him. He made each one of us aware of how special we were to him. He was a generous man and always provided for his family.
He left us with many words of advice throughout our lives and one of his final reminders was “Always be the first to say I am sorry.” One of his favourite verses comes from Romans 8:28 : "And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose."
A graveside memorial gathering will be held for family at a later date in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
