Fern Moritz Obituary

Fern Nellie Ann Moritz passed away on January 14, 2021, at the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 79. Fern was born on a farm 3 miles east of Olds Alberta on January 30, 1941. She lived and worked on the family turkey hatchery in Olds for 13 years. The Moritz family then moved to Creston B.C. in 1961. Brother Wayne finished school in Creston, Fern went to bible studies at the College in Old’s Alberta.  
Fern met Alfred W. Peters, they married and had two children, Brian in May 1962 and Kelly in November 1963. The family lived in Calgary Alberta until 1971, Fern then moved to Creston B.C. where she raised her two children with help of Vera and Walter Moritz. While in Creston she worked as a secretary for ED MacKay TV repair shop. Fern also worked as an assistant at the Creston Valley Health unit. She then went to college where she received her certification to work with the physically or mentally disabled. Fern worked at Cresteramics where she airbrushed and taught the physically or mentally disabled how to make beautiful ceramics. Fern continued to work there until she was fifty, then retired. She got married to John Watson in 1985 and they enjoyed living in Quartzite Arizona every winter for 4 years in their motorhome.    

Fern was a member of the Creston Valley Curling club and enjoyed it very much, making lots of friends there. She kept busy with Brian who played minor hockey and did a lot of driving for games out of town. Fern enjoyed quilting and produced many large beautiful quilts. She entered the Creston Valley Fall Fair for 10 or more years and won many awards. She received many first-place ribbons and trophies for her quilts, flowers, and canning fruit and vegetables. Fern also loved growing flowers, roses and dahlias were her specialty. She was an avid gardener and spent countless hours in her yard. Her yard was featured in the Creston garden tours for two years. Fern started travelling and went on garden tours to Hawaii, China, Europe, India and Holland where she enjoyed world-class gardens and boat cruises.

Fern was preceded by her father, Walter Moritz February 26, 1991. Mother, Vera Moritz April 20, 2004. Fern is survived by her brother, Wayne (M-Star) Moritz (Livingstone) sisters, Maxine Buckham and Hilda Ager (husband, Harold Ager) of Calgary. Her son, Brian Peters (Wife, Genevieve. Sons, Nathan and Michael, Daughter; Shaelyn) of Calgary. Her Daughter, Kelly Peters. Son in law, Randy Hindley. Her grandchildren, Stefanie Reutgen, Partner Ryan Fleck, Kristina Reutgen, and great-grandchildren; Konnor and Olivia Reutgen. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are from Creston BC. She will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by all her family members and many friends.
