Dorothy Hunter Obituary

Dorothy van Edith Nichols was born in a log house near Black Diamond Alberta, the third child — daughter of Frank Nichols and Christeen Baumbach. At her passing she was the last remaining of their eight children. Dorothy married Harold Hunter in 1944 and together they raised six children — two girls and four boys.

Dorothy was a homemaker, an artist, a craftsperson, a cook. At the same time she was employed for many years in the office at Lethbridge General Hospital and St. Michaels Hospital. On moving to West Creston in 1973 she was employed for some time as a “geriatric assistant” in the Creston Hospital.

She was passionate about her craft in creating ceramics. She had her own kiln and taught her skills to others. She loved nature and in particular the deer and birds — especially hummingbirds. During her residency at Swan Valley Lodge she would often be counting pigeons as they came and went on the rooftops of the elevators, visible from her chair as she watched, looking out the window, imagining what they were doing.

Dorothy was loyal to her family. She loved with an unwavering love. In 1947 she committed to a life of faith as a follower of Jesus and in her last days particularly looked forward to “going home” to be with the Lord.

She was predeceased by her husband Harold, daughter Sue (Ralph Walters), and son Garry. Leaving behind to mourn is daughter Avis (Paul Nedza), sons Bill, Ken, and Kevin. She has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren who mourn her passing.

A private family Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
