Della Birdie Senft (Harms) of Creston, BC, passed away at 89 years old due to complications of cancer and pneumonia. Mom did not want to be here any longer, and praise God, she is now in her Heavenly home!
The days before she took her last breath were filled with many visits from family, saying goodbye. Mom was still singing and reciting poetry despite all the pain and discomfort.
Mother was born near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Susanna and David Harms and was the youngest of 12 children. At the age of six months old, she lost her Father and never knew what it was like, but her God-fearing mother was ever praying and teaching her about her Heavenly Father.
In the 1930s, it was very hard, but Della’s mother had enormous resilience to pull them through. Della talked often of her mother, who went to her Lord and Saviour for everything.
Later in life, Mom went to Bible college and met Jacob, whom she married. Then, 5 children came in 6 years. In between all motherly duties, she was testifying, singing in church, playing the piano, guitar, and accordion, working and volunteering steadily, and always taking in children in the Kitchener community, where Mom and Dad lived for 35 years.
Mom truly lived her faith and was bubbly, childlike, fun, caring, and active, and she gave so much of herself. She was such a joy to be around! Always smiling and showing her children that they were a treasure. Her grandchildren adored her playfulness and fun!
A celebration of life will be held on June 12, 2026, at 11 A.M. for family and close friends, with a luncheon afterwards.
