Bonnie Carol Case

It is with a sense of great loss the family of Bonnie Carol Case announces her passing. Bonnie passed peacefully on Friday, June 14th, at the age of 77. Bonnie was private in her battle with her illness. However, she was surrounded and supported by her family throughout her fight and also in her final hours.

Bonnie was born to Edna and Woodrow Case in 1947 in Calgary, AB. Some of her best childhood memories are camping in the Kananaskis. When Bonnie was 18, she left home and moved to Toronto to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an actress. She enrolled in acting classes with John Candy and also befriended Danny Ackroyd and Andrea Martin. Bonnie did commercial work, copywriting, voice-over, modelling, and radio work. 

Her big break was when she was cast in the CBC children’s television series “The Bananas" (1969).  She went on to star opposite Carol Kane in the Canadian Best Picture Winner “Wedding in White" (1972).

After an exciting youth spent pursuing her dreams, living and working in many different places, Bonnie found her forever home in the great beauty of the Creston Valley. There, with her husband, David Boldt, she raised her two daughters, Melissa Howell and Auralea Boldt.

Though Bonnie was never formally educated at a University level, she had an intense thirst for knowledge and learning. She was always found with a book in her hand, be it sun-tanning on the banks of Kootenay Lake, or in her reading chair in the kitchen. She loved literature, non-fiction, and poetry. She was well-versed with intelligent insights on current events and societal issues. Bonnie participated in a writer’s group, was a skilled writer and poet, and attended poetry jams and writers' conferences. She was the life of every party. She delighted in any type of scholarly or intellectual company, especially if it involved a raucous dinner party. Her cooking was legendary.

Bonnie freelanced for the Creston Valley Advance and was a member of the local Arts Council. She also taught children’s theatre classes, launched the community festival “Focus on Youth,” and directed and starred in many local theatre productions. Bonnie intrinsically understood how necessary art was, and the important contribution and meaning that it adds to our lives.

In a manner reminiscent of Emily Dickinson, Bonnie was deeply connected to nature throughout her life. Nature was her temple and place of worship, tied intricately to her spirituality. In the middle to later years of her life, Bonnie deepened her interest and participation in environmental work and activism, likely rooted in her profound and lifelong love of the natural world. 

Bonnie always had a desire to make things beautiful. She was a free spirit, a bit of a gypsy in her youth, and she always walked to the beat of her own drum, unapologetically pursuing what she loved in life. She was interested primarily in what she found deep, real, and meaningful in life, and she was a testament to us all in the way she pursued these things unabashedly.

Bonnie is survived by her ex-husband and also lifelong friend and partner David Albert Boldt of Creston, BC; brother Gordon Case of Vancouver, BC; oldest daughter Melissa Howell and son-in-law Graham Howell of Vancouver, BC; youngest daughter Auralea Carol Boldt of Beaver Mines, AB; her beautiful grandchildren whom she adored: Tristan David Bieda and Juno Sophia Bieda; nieces Lalania Noel and Lee-Anne Noel of Nanaimo, BC; and cats Lia and Shine.

Bonnie will not be forgotten and continues to live on as a beautiful memory in the hearts and minds of those whose lives she touched around her. We are all deeply and profoundly grateful for the light and beauty she brought to our lives.
