Peggy Abar Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Peggy (Grace) Abar in Trail BC on October 28, 2019.

Peggy was born on January 3, 1923 in Creston BC to Frank and Serena Lewis. She was the last survivor of seven sisters and two brothers.   Her loving husband Frank of 64 yrs passed away in 2005 and her son Gordon in 2009.

Peggy met Frank in Trail at a dance at the KP Hall.   They were married in August of 1941 but were soon to be separated. Frank had joined the army and was called to duty in 1942.   Peg moved back to Creston at that time  to raise her son Gordon with the help of family.  During those years, she worked with her sister,  and helped to support the war effort.  Frank returned home in 1946,  and the three moved  to Nelson where Marlene was born. Finding work and housing more plentiful  in Trail in 1948 another move was made.  Peg started her long time  career here working as an LPN.  The family eventually returned to Creston where she continued working for many years at the Creston Hospital. She enjoyed this work very much and was a highly respected and dedicated nurse.

Upon retiring, Peggy and Frank enjoyed travelling,  spending time with family, and getting together with their good friends, many of whom they met through square dancing.  Mum always had a wonderful garden and seemed to be able to grow anything.  She was a caregiver through and through always watching over others in her neighbourhood. Some of her happiest times were spent on the many walks she took with her little dog Mitzi.  She was extremely strong for a little person with lots of pep and attitude.  She could recite many a poem, had a huge itinerary of sayings, snew the words to a lot of songs and was a beautiful dancer.  She loved her family dearly and we are blessed for all the time we had together.

Peggy is survived  by her daughter Marlene (Ken) Bojechko, Grandson Casey (Lauren) Bojechko - great grandchildren Lilian and Violet,  Grandson Doug (Debbie) Abar - great grandchild James Abar,  plus Courtney (Tim) -  great great grandchildren Mason, Noah and Jax,  Lee (Milissa) - great great grandchildren Kinney and Asher.  Plus many nieces and nephews throughout the Kootenays.   She will be truly missed.
